Ismarida lake, or Mother Lake

  The Lake Ismarida, formerly "Maternal or Mother Lake”,  is located south of Rhodope, east of Lake Vistonida and within 3 km from the sea, particularly the bay Anoikto. It occupies nearly an area of 2.3 square kilometers. The maximum depth is 1.5 m and the average depth is 1 m. Clock Tower

The Clock Tower was built in 1884, during the era of Sultan Abdul Hamid II. In the decade of 1950, architectural interventions were made and took its current form. Behind the tower rises the minaret of the mosque “Yeni Mosque” where the muezzin calls the faithful of Islam to prayer from the minaret balcony. Ecclesiastical Museum Metropolis Maronias and Komotini (Imaret)

The Old Courthouse

The building that until recently housed the courthouse of Komotini, was studied and built by a Dutch architect around 1870 for Sultan Abdul Aziz and his successor Abdul Hamid II on behalf of the Ottoman Administration of that time as Government House.The courthouse building was used as headquarters by the authorities of the Ottoman Empire until the July of 1913. Military Museum of Fortress Nymphea

The Military Museum of Fortress Nymphea is located 17 km away from Komotini and operates since 2000 in the portico of the eponymous fortress. Kryoneri - Alkiona Beach

The Kryoneri - Alkiona beach is sandy with shallow waters. In the beach you can find a tavern and a beach bar which has as a result the concentration of mainly young ages. Ptelea or Karagatseli and Marsh lagoons

They are two coastal, shallow lakes with salt water, muddy shores, sandy strips of land, BEACHES to the side of the sea and salt marshes. There is a link between them and separated by a dike. To the north and northeast, they are surrounded by irrigated, cultivated land. In the south, towards the sea, there are rocky shores.  The biggest flamingo populations are meeting in the Ptelea or Karagatseli and Marsh lagoon . Central Square (Eirinis square)

The central square of Komotini (or Eirini Square) is considered the heart of the city with the countless cafés, which are full of life during midday but mostly evening hours due to the large number of students living and studying in the city. The Old Heroon

It is located in the little grove opposite to the Archeological Museum. It is the work of the talented local sculptor Peter Moschidis and it is made of pure marble in 1930. The names of 63 people from Komotini, who were sacrificed in the Greek-Italian war of 1940-41, are graven on the lately added two big marble plaques. The Memorial is not used today but it lies deep within the heart of the whole city, because among other things, is an important work of art.  view more
