Mansion Staliou

The Stalios Mansion has been listed as a work of art requiring special government protection. It was built between 1903 and 1905 and was used as a residence by Zafirios Stalios. A few years earlier, in the beginning of the 1880s, the Stalios family operated a steam mill on the plot opposite the mansion. The family moved to Komotini from Xanthi where it was distinguished for their public work. The Stalios Mansion belongs to that kind of mansions whose exterior and interior decoration blends new elements with old tradition. These elements were long overdue in the provincial areas as they were first introduced in the commercial centres of Europe, where gross-merchants, like the Stalios family, would hold their business transactions on a regular basis. It is attested that the original tiles and the window handles were imported from Marseilles. Similarly, the interior design includes frescos and ceiling paintings.

The Mansion is located at 64 Kondyli street and houses the Papadriellios Municipal Gallery.
